When someone imports my library, i.e., require secp256k1, they also get access to the modules not named Secp256k1, for example: ```crystal
everything starts with a random number
private_key = Secp256k1.new_private_key
private keys in bitcoin's wallet import format
wif = Bitcoin.wif_from_private private_key, "80" ``` I am wondering, is there any sensible way to have namespaces for submodules? For example: Secp256k1::Bitcoin.wif_from_private priv instead of referencing Bitcoin directly? I'm asking because maybe other libraries also reference such a namespace and I want clarity for developers using this library. I'm currently refactoring the library and wondering what's the best practice is to arrange the modules exposed by the library.
Compressed, uncompresses bitcoin addresses and WIFs are different??
Hello I am trying to play a bit with the Python ofek bit library and trying to find wallets using SHA256 (obviously in HEX format with 64 chars) derived from text strings and comparing to those displayed by Bitaddress.org Wallet Details. To find this just insert the SHA256 hash below on the Wallet details section and see yourself. For example:
I thought the compressed variants were the same addresses just in a different format. But if you check both variants of the Bitcoin addresses on blockchain.info, they will point to different addresses apparently as one had transactions and the other didn't. Why is this? Ofek's library (and other libraries I tried) get the compressed variants of the SHA256 value. Anyone can explain why this is this way? Just imagine you send it to the wrong address thinking it's yours (even if both WIFs were generated from the same SHA256 value) Thank you.
I am searching for an Android Bitcoin Cash Wallet that can import (or sweep) a private key (WIF) from a Bitcoin Core cold storage paper wallet.
SOLVED. The app "Coinomi" did the trick (not import, but sweep, which is ok for the low network fees...) (btw, also works for BTG) Any recommendations / tips? Actually "import" would be preferred over "sweep", but since Tx Fees are so low with BCH, also "sweep" is acceptable for my use-case. What I mean is entering (or sweeping) my own single private key* (legacy WIF format as we know it from paper wallets**), and NOT entering my own determinsistic 12-word-mnemonic seed. For the following Bitcoin Core wallets I am aware that they support it - but I am looking for a Bitcoin Cash Wallet that can do the same:
Mycelium (can scan private key QR code or enter from clipboard)
Bither (can scan private key QR code or enter it manually in text form)
The following Bitcoin Cash wallets cannot do it:
Coinomi correction: maybe Coinomi CAN sweep a priv key when using the QR icon form the "balance" page - I will try... update: it worked!
Bitcoin.com (probably not -. I am still in the process of generating it, it requires some network for some reason and stalls since more than 5 minutes on my powerful Samsung Galaxy) -> deinstalled again - it sucks.
Oh - and I'd like to enter the private key manually via text, not via QR code scan, if possible (because I only have the private key ("5.....") in text form and don't want to convert it to one of those QR code generator online websites, for obvious reasons).(removed, because bitaddress.org used offline serves this purpose to convert priv key (text) to QR code) PS: If anybody also knows about BTG for the same question, I'd be interested, too, obviously.
So I copied my private key, how do I access the coins now?
I have an Electrum wallet and I'm about to format the computer. I have made backups and copied the files (and of course also have my 12 words). But I have another question: I have copied the long private key of the address which has a positive balance. Other that in Electrum, how do I now access my coins? I paste this key into ___?
